Avern Dog Patch Grass Seed is a scientifically formulated blend developed specifically to withstand the nitrogen-rich urine that typically leaves unsightly yellow or brown patches across a lawn. By incorporating urine-resistant cultivars, it creates a resilient, lush green surface that holds up to the daily wear and tear of dogs, children, and general family use — making it equally well suited to sports pitches and high-traffic garden areas.
The seed is versatile enough to be used for everything from establishing a brand new lawn to overseeding thin areas or patching up damaged turf. For new lawns you'll want to apply around 35 grams per square metre, while overseeding and repairs only need roughly half that amount. Sowing is possible from March through to September, though late summer or mid-spring tends to give the best results, as long as the ground temperature is consistently above 10 degrees Celsius and the soil retains some moisture.
This is DEFRA-approved seed, packed in the UK and specifically selected to perform well in British soils and climate conditions, so you're not relying on a blend engineered for hotter or drier parts of the world. It establishes quickly, can be cut down to 25mm, and the one-kilogram bag covers up to 60 square metres when overseeding — making it a practical, no-nonsense choice for anyone trying to keep their lawn looking good despite the best efforts of a family dog.
